How I got my name: Tam was named after one of her rescuers
Arrived: March 30, 2015
Birthday: Estimated late 2014 to early 2015
Favourite Snack: Green garden peas
Quirky habit/Superpower: Waddling with attitude
If any duck ever waddled with attitude, it is Tam.
Tam is not just a duck; she is the Elder Queen of Liberation Sanctuary, treated with great respect and esteem. Tam is definitely her own duck, she knows what she wants and where she wants to be: splashing about in the water! She is a very special and beloved member of our sanctuary family.
Tam was rescued as a young duckling from a perilous situation. When domestic waterbirds are dumped in public parks and waterways, they are considered pests, and local council authorities are obligated to euthanase them. Tam and four other dumped waterbirds were living in the Elwood canal, facing this grim fate.
Thankfully, our rescue team intervened. Tam was part of a group of five birds saved from the canal, giving them a second chance at life. She is one of the very few animals still with us from the original sanctuary location, making her a precious link to our history and a testament to the power of rescue.
As one of our elderly residents, Tam now spends her days enjoying the good life. She loves the water, which is probably why she spends much of her free time with our handsome roosters, Lex and Luthor. We suspect she’s not there for the rooster companionship, but simply for access to their private pool!
Tam embodies the spirit of resilience, surviving a tragic start to become a charismatic, independent elder. She carries herself with a distinct attitude, reminding everyone that she is here to stay and deserves every moment of peace and happiness.
Caring for an animal friend like Tam means providing specialised care, senior nutrition, and access to her very own private splash zones.
Your monthly support ensures Tam can continue to live out her days exactly as she pleases, splashing happily, enjoying her green garden peas, and waddling with the authority befitting a true queen.
You will receive a digital gift certificate and PDF story within 48 hours of sponsoring Tam.
