The Pig Who Rules The Valley
When you meet Sir Bruce, you meet the undisputed boss of our main valley. This charismatic pig, known for his love of mud and his even bigger heart, arrived at Liberation Sanctuary in November 2022, ready to start a life of freedom.
Bruce was rescued as a tiny piglet from a large commercial farm where he was being raised for consumption. Thankfully, his original rescuer intervened, giving Bruce a second chance. This kind soul provided him with immense love, even sleeping beside him every night for the first three months of his life to ensure he felt safe and cherished. When that sanctuary could no longer provide the specialised care Bruce needed, they reached out to us, and we welcomed him without hesitation.
Our three older pigs at the sanctuary were not eager to allow Bruce into their territory, known as Pigland, so he was introduced to the main valley, a much larger domain. It turned out to be the perfect placement. Bruce now spends his days digging in the mud, swimming in the dam, and exploring the hills with his diverse group of friends: the cows, sheep, and alpacas. He is completely comfortable in his role, ruling gently over the mixed herd.
As a true testament to his magnetic charm, a woman used to drive past the sanctuary and was captivated when she saw Bruce through the fence! She became a valued volunteer at Liberation Sanctuary and visits Bruce every week, spending time caring for him, giving him treats (especially pumpkin, his favorite!), and they have quickly become best friends. Bruce’s ability to inspire devotion and joy is truly his superpower.
We have recently welcomed a new, younger piggy to the sanctuary, and we are hopeful that as she grows up, she and Bruce will also become friends, establishing a new era of peace in Pigland!
