Georgia’s Journey

When Georgia first arrived at Liberation Sanctuary, she was an expression of profound fear and anxiety, a small soul shattered by trauma.

Her journey to us began mysteriously. She had been found on a neighbour’s property, a lost and frightened soul. The neighbour faced the difficult decision of either ending her life or seeking help, and was thankfully struck by a sudden spark of compassion. He called us, asking if we could offer her a different future, a chance at safety. We said yes, without hesitation.

She arrived with her legs tied together and shaking, a tiny, terrified creature who had seen too much hardship. After she had settled in, we gently introduced her to our special needs sheep area, hoping her own kind might comfort her. But Georgia kept her distance, showing zero interest in them.

Instead, her eyes were fixed on the next field, the home of our gentle, special needs cattle herd.

Acting on a hunch, we opened the gate. What happened next melted our hearts. Georgia didn’t hesitate. She didn’t walk; she sprinted straight toward the cows, running right up to them and nestling herself immediately into their massive, comforting bodies.

Since that day, they have been inseparable.

We’ve tried, truly we have, to introduce her to other sheep, but Georgia wants none of it. She simply avoids them. To Georgia, the idea of being called a sheep is nothing short of insulting. She is a cow, thank you very much, and she’s happy to spend her days grazing and napping among her enormous cow family. We are quite sure that if she ever looked into a mirror, she’d be utterly horrified by what she saw!

Our best guess is that this naturally scared and flighty girl bolted while being unloaded from a transport truck, escaping her terrifying destination through a tiny, forgotten gap. She would have run until her little legs gave out, finding safety and shelter in a pasture where she was raised by a herd of cows. When her adopted family was taken away, she would have been forced to run again, alone, until that miraculous moment when our neighbour found the courage to ask for help.

Now, safe at Liberation Sanctuary, Georgia is finally adapting to a life free from fear. She is thriving among her chosen family, learning what it feels like to be truly safe and loved. Her journey to trust humans has been slow, but recently, we’ve had a breakthrough: she has started taking handfuls of fresh grass right from our hands. This small, brave step is a huge leap for a soul as deeply wounded as hers, proving that healing and hope are possible if we give them the chance.
