Franklin

This sweet guy is Franklin, and he had the luckiest day of his life when we found him wandering a busy road.

One of our volunteers discovered a cow a few hundred meters down the winding country road from Liberation Sanctuary, in the middle of a dangerous bend.

One of our team stopped traffic while another went to get treats to guide him off the road. When we returned there were several cars backed up each way, and our volunteer Laura was successfully leading the cow to safety on sanctuary grounds.

Unfortunately, soon the ‘owners’ showed up and saw him in our paddock. They said they had accidentally left a gate open and wanted him back, as he was scheduled for slaughter in a few days.

Our volunteer Noah eventually managed to convince the neighbour that this gentle cow they’d had for four years and who was loved by their children, would have a happy life at the sanctuary where their children would always be welcome to visit him. After some negotiation, and appealing to their better angels, he was released into our care.

We decided to name him Franklin, which means freedom. And he can now live out the rest of his life with our herd of rescued cows in the hills and valleys of Liberation Sanctuary, forever safe from slaughter.
